Team USA is locked and loaded for its Davis Cup clash with Czechia on September 12–13 in Delray Beach, FL. With Ben Shelton and Tommy Paul sidelined by injuries sustained at the US Open, Captain Bob Bryan has turned to a star-studded mix of veterans and hometown firepower to bolster his lineup.
Florida’s own Reilly Opelka returns to the court in front of his home crowd, joining Olympic silver medalist Austin Krajicek, doubles legend Rajeev Ram, and top American singles stars Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe.
Opelka, a Delray Beach native, will look to feed off local support in his Davis Cup return. Krajicek and Ram, both former doubles world # 1-ranked players, reunite after capturing Olympic silver together in Paris. Ram, now 41, became the oldest tennis Olympic medalist in 116 years and had a historic run of three consecutive US Open doubles titles from 2021-23 with partner Joe Salisbury – becoming the first men’s doubles team in the Open Era (since 1968) to win three consecutive US Open titles. Krajicek, meanwhile, etched his own Grand Slam legacy by winning Roland Garros in 2023 with Ivan Dodig. Anchoring the squad in singles are Fritz and Tiafoe both with career high Top 10 rankings.
The tie will be played in the standard Davis Cup best-of-five format: two singles matches Friday night, followed by Saturday’s doubles showdown, and two additional singles matches if necessary.
The first nation to claim three victories punches its ticket to the Davis Cup quarterfinal round in Bologna, Italy, set for November 18–23.
